GOALS
The
INROBADEP, INC has three primary goals.
The first goal is to promote indigenous knowledge and
innovative farming practices by functioning as a pilot development
resource organization for farmers and their children.
The second goal is to ensure that, in addition to social
and economic considerations, environmental and cultural values
are given appropriate consideration when integrating traditional
and innovative farming methods and technologies.
The third goal is to promote a balanced development that
is sustainable. That is a development that supports more than
one need, such as agriculture, economic development, environmental
protection, cultural preservation and tourism, youth and training,
preventive health education and family planning, and that can
last for future generations.

BACKGROUND
The
County of Bignona is located in the administrative region of
Ziguinchor known as the natural region of the Lower Casamance
in southern Senegal, West Africa. There are about 270, 000 inhabitants
in the county. Like the rest of the country, the county of Bignona
experiences two seasons: the rainy season, which lasts about
three months from July through September, and the dry season.
The annual average precipitation in Ziguinchor, which is the
capital city of Casamance, is about 50.7 inches.
Bignona
was a natural paradise of Senegal known for its beautiful flora
and varied fauna, high agricultural production, rich cultures,
and attractive beaches and rivers. Bignona was one of the most
appealing counties for tourism in the country of Senegal. For
years, the rainy season would last from May to mid-November,
allowing rural people to farm and conduct all kinds of productive
activities. It was a wonderful place to live and raise children.
Since
the second half of 1970s, the progressive encroachment of the
Sahara desert shifted the flora, fauna, and social landscape.
The rainy season became shorter, affecting negatively the rivers,
suitable farming lands and flora. The varied fauna changed to
an agonizing unattractiveness. Drought, poverty, poor health
conditions and hunger progressively emptied the countryside
of its manpower. Young people, because of the lack of programs
to alleviate their economic burdens, moved to towns and cities
to face unfulfilled hopes of finding jobs. This dismal situation
shifted production to helplessness, abundance to survival, hope
to burden, and motivation to social frustration in villages.
Therefore we must respond today, to develop activities and programs
that once implemented will restore hope, attract the youth back
to villages, and improve the standard of living.
You
are invited to join the efforts of INROBADEP, INC. to keep rural
populations busy in productive activities, and to defeat poverty,
hunger, disease, illiteracy, and helplessness in the county
of Bignona. Moreover, these achievements will help to restore
the disturbed suitable farming land, fauna and flora. Progressive
extension of programs will include the region of Ziguinchor,
and then country.
The
help of your services in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.
INROBADEP, INC., as a grassroots organization of the County
of Bignona incorporated in the United States of America, is

of rural people through the creativity and commitment generated
by local, regional and international initiatives.
